Deven started his career as a trial lawyer but transitioned to general counsel work for the City of Austin in 2007. He then transitioned to leading labor negotiations for the City, a position he held for over a decade, beginning in 2011 until 2022. He also spent time as an Assistant director for the Human Resources Department in 2016 and served as the City’s Police Monitor for a year in 2017. Deven was brought on board in Summer 2023 as a consultant to help the Austin Animal Center implement solutions based on some of the recommendations from its most recent Audit. Currently, Deven serves as the Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer for the City of Austin.
