The 40-Hour Basic Mediation Course is a 5-day (8:30 am – 5:30 pm)  training offered to the general public several times each year.  This September training is completely online while remaining live and interactive.  This course is designed to give individuals the skills and credentials they need to serve as a mediator in the State of Texas. The training focuses on the community-based mediation model. Individuals actively participate in practice mediation following each lecture session, and certificates are provided to participants upon completion of the course.

PLEASE NOTE:   Requirements for participation in this online training include:

• Registrant must use a laptop or desktop computer during the training that has a camera and microphone.  (No tablets or cell phones.)
• To meet the standards for the training, the registrant must attend the full 40 hour course and be visible by camera the entire time.
• Recording of sessions by the registrant is not permitted.

About the trainer:    

Walter A. Wright is a professor in the Legal Studies Program of the Department of Political Science at Texas State University, where he teaches courses in law and alternative dispute resolution (ADR).  He is also an adjunct professor of mediation at the University of Texas School of Law and an adjunct professor of collaborative law and mediation at the Universidad de Alcalá de Henares (Spain).  An attorney and mediator, he received B.A. and J.D. degrees from the University of Houston and an LL.M. in International Legal Studies from New York University.  He is former president of the Texas Association of Mediators and the Association of Attorney-Mediators. His current activities include service as editor-in-chief of El Acuerdo, an ADR newsletter published in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and as an ex officio member of the Council of the State Bar of Texas Collaborative Law Section.  Since 1996, he has enjoyed teaching ADR courses and conducting facilitated dialogues in Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.  He has published over 110 book chapters and articles, mostly related to law and mediation, in the United States and Latin America, and he holds a designation as a Credentialed Mediator with the Texas Mediator Credentialing Association.

Cancellations will be accepted until two weeks prior to the starting date of each class. There will be a $50 administration charge deducted from each refund. No refunds are available after the cancellation date.
